Clear Concept® is an integrated system of effective acne therapies. The cornerstone of the Clear Concept® program is the multi-modal treatments of blue light, Levulan®, and appropriate skin care. Here is some additional information about the modalities used in Clear Concept® treatments:
Micropeels
A micropeel consists of a microdermabrasion, during which the outer layer of dead skin is removed, and a superficial chemical peel. Micropeels maximize and expedite the results that can be achieved through proper skin care alone and can be used for many conditions. They minimize the appearance of acne, smooth and soften skin, brighten the complexion, minimize pore size, reduce discoloration, and improve the appearance of fine lines and shallow scars.
Skin peels are usually recommended in a series during which they are performed every 1 to 2 weeks. After the initial series of peels, a maintenance treatment is usually recommended about once every two months to maintain the results attained during your initial treatments.
Our office only performs the most superficial chemical peels; you may apply makeup after treatment and enjoy your usual activities. Those with more sensitive skin may have slight redness for one to two days following each treatment.
Omnilux
Since cases of acne are as individual as the person, some therapies are better suited for certain individuals. The Omnilux is another option for patients who suffer from acne. Omnilux's specific blue light interacts with the bacteria in acne lesions. When the bacteria absorb the blue light, it causes a chemical reaction within the bacteria and the bacteria dies. The red light of the Omnilux can be used separately or with the blue light to lower the level of inflammation, irritation and redness in the skin.
Omnilux acne treatments are recommended to be done twice a week for 4 weeks (8 treatments total). The blue and red light treatments are completely painless with no known side effects. In fact, most patients fall asleep during the 20 minute procedure. Although not all pimples will clear completely, a significant reduction in the number of inflamed pimples will be noticed. Some patients will notice results as early as after the first 2 treatments. Omnilux blue and red light treatments in conjunction with Aramis laser acne treatments provide optimal results.
Levulan®
Levulan® is an AminoLevulanic Acid that, when used in conjunction with the Omnilux blue light treatment, increases the effectiveness of the acne-fighting treatment.
Aramis™ Laser
To treat acne where it begins, the Aramis™ laser uses a patented wavelength to penetrate the skin's layers to the depth where sebaceous glands are located. The laser thermally alters the reactors in the sebaceous gland, reducing oil and bacteria production, thereby reducing the size of the gland and the number of resulting acne lesions. Using the Aramis also results in a significant reduction in skin oiliness. This is of particular interest to patients that experience problems while wearing make-up.
To treat acne, a series of four to five procedures is administered, usually two weeks apart. Results are gradual with an approximate 20% reduction in the number of lesions after each treatment. The unique contact cooling of the Aramis laser makes the treatment virtually painless, with no need for anesthesia and no associated side-effects, ensuring patient comfort and greater compliance.
